THE HATCHERY

We have established that the large, disused building and 0.5 ha of surrounding land owned by the fish farm company that owns Scottish Salmon were no longer of use to them, and they have agreed to sell the asset to the Community.

Having carried out a consultation on its use and having had the building and land offered for sale, we now wish to proceed and acquire it.

We are currently seeking Scottish Land Fund Stage 1 funding in order to bring this asset into community ownership. Successful funding will see the derelict building being brought back into use with the refurbishment planned. The first consultation work carried out with the Bernera News, surfaced ideas ranging from community food processing space and a social tap, to small business incubation units with shared equipment and services available. Further consultation will take place at Stage 2 of the SLF application on this exciting and valuable community resource.
